Arthur Waagen Cast Spelter Sculpture "Majestic Stag Standing Alert"

Item Details

A cast spelter sculpture after a work by listed Prussian artist Arthur Waagen (1869-1910). The piece has been referred to under multiple titles, including Majestic Stag Standing Alert, Stag and Doe on Earth Form Ground and others. The sculpture depicts a stag and doe in their natural habitat; it rests on a black patinated zinc alloy base. The work is signed ‘A. Waagen’ in mold to the lower right of the base. The piece is otherwise unmarked.

Condition

- to Fair; front leg of doe broken off at knee; broken leaf on plant to front left; bolts holding sculpture to base are somewhat loose; surface wear and scuffing to finish; flaking to finish of base; piece would benefit from cleaning.
