An early 20th-century color lithograph on paper after an 1896 painting by listed Hungarian artist Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900). The image, titled Ecce Homo (Behold the Man), depicts Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate standing before an angry multitude in the Biblical scenes just prior to the crucifixion. The work features muted hues of blue, green, cream, yellow, red and brown. The image is signed and dated in plate to the lower right. The print is also titled in plate to the lower center, with additional notations of ‘Michael Munkacsy Pinx’ and ‘Copyright by Könyves Kálmán Budapest’ printed just below the image. The piece is matted in off-white and presented under glass in a black wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso. - to Fair; small areas of residue and wear to paper; toning, acid burns and foxing to paper and mat with age; paper and mat are slightly buckled within frame; surface scratching and edge wear to frame; loose joints to frame; tears and moisture stains to frame’s backing paper.
