Hand-Knotted Baluch Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Baluch area rug. This rectilinear tribal wool rug is rendered in a palette of abrashed midnight blue, crimson, red, and ivory. It features a blue field populated with four female figures amid large and small rosettes, tulip shapes, pinwheels, diamonds, scrolls, and other motifs, all in red or crimson. Much of the field is enclosed in a stepped lozenge outlined by a thin ivory and crimson border. Framing the field are multiple borders, including meandering carnations in gray over red, a primary border of red and gray geometric florets over ivory, and barber pole patterns. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and various lengths of unbound ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is untagged.
