A 19th-century hand-colored lithograph on paper by listed English ornithological artists and naturalists John Gould (1804-1881) and Elizabeth Coxen Gould (1804-1841). The piece, titled Hemipodius Pyrrothorax, depicts two quail standing among ground vegetation. The lithograph was printed by Charles Joseph Hullmandel of London (1789-1850). The image is titled in plate to the lower center, noted ‘J & E Gould del’ in plate to the lower left and noted ‘C. Hullmandel Imp’ in plate to the lower right. The print is presented under glass in a wooden frame with metallic finish; the frame includes hanging wire to the verso. - to Fair; toning and foxing to print with age; stain to lower right corner; debris visible under glass; some scratching, surface wear and peeling to finish of frame; loose joints to frame; staining and adhesive label to frame’s cardboard backing.
