Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian tribal pictorial rug, possibly Baluch. This highly artistic wool area rug is woven in an abrashed palette of cochineal red, crimson, gray, ivory, and beige. It begins with numerous large tree of life representations over a red field. The bottom half of the field is populated with smaller trees of life as well as crisply rendered goats, birds, and a pair of Baluchi motifs. Meanwhile, the top of the field features representations of several birds along with a pair of human figures riding camels, amid small florets and floating boteh. Framing the field are multiple unresolved borders, including a primary border featuring a Baluchi motif over ivory. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short cotton warp fringe. It is untagged.
