Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Persian wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of black, camel, taupe, and shades of brown. It features a large-scale herati pattern incorporating shah abbasi palmettes, swirling vines, and florals over a black field. Framing the field are compound resolved borders. These include a pair of thin borders that each contain repeating hands on hips figures over a cream ground; also included is a wide Oushak-style primary border featuring meandering palmettes and vining florals over camel. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with a short kilim skirt and long, knotted ivory cotton warp fringe. The rug is unmarked.
