Italian Faience Plates from Estate of Duke and Duchess of Windsor

A collection of circa 1930s Italian faience plates. This collection includes seven plates featuring a tin glaze with hand painted botanicals of the vegetable type with green enamel highlights to the rim. The plates are marked to the underside reading ‘Italy’ and includes the decorator mark as well as the Windsor Castle catalog number written in fine black marker. Originally from the estate of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, former King Edward VIII of Britain and Wallis Simpson, these plates were purchased from Sotheby’s New York auction number NY7000 September 11, 1997.
Condition
- minor surface wear including some glaze skinning on rims, bubbling, and knife marks when tilted toward the light; minor chip to rims of bean pod and yellow pepper plates; 0.25" chip to foot rim of red carrots and yellow pepper plates; 0.125" chip to foot rim of bean pod plate.
