Item Details

A signed, handwoven Persian silk area rug, attributed to weavers of Kashan. This beautifully woven silk rug features ornately woven exotic tree, flower and bird motifs throughout, in a palette of red, moss green, tan, pale green, rich brown and blue on a pale yellow field. The intricate images feature quail or pheasant, ducks, songbirds and a variety of blooming flowers and colorful butterflies. The guard borders, on a deep cinnamon field, have a colorful array of flowers, framed in black, flanking the primary border showing pairs of parrots and other birds in bright colors on a white field. It is signed in a cartouche to the top end. The top end has a dense silk fringe and the opposite end has a bound, decorative kilim skirt, and it has overcast edges. Included with the rug is a light colored wood hanging bracket for display, marked ‘Qualwood’.
