Kenyan Mask

A Kenyan mask. The mask is black in color and made of wood, depicting a long face with eye and mouth slits. The interior has a sticker reading ‘Kwanza Imports ICM4’ adhered to the surface.

The African art pieces in this sale were acquired by the previous owner while living in rural Kenya in the 1960s and 1970s. The collector admired the art of Wakamba artisans and loved supporting their work. His admiration eventually spread to the work of artisans from throughout the continent.

Condition

- hair on the left side of the face has been repaired
- some wear from age
