A pair of carved wooden bookends. Each artisan piece depicts the bust of a Kenyan figure set against the depiction of a book. The pieces are unmarked.

The African art pieces in this sale were acquired by the previous owner while living in rural Kenya in the 1960s and 1970s. The collector admired the art of Wakamba artisans and loved supporting their work. His admiration eventually spread to the work of artisans from throughout the continent.
