Hand Thrown Crystalline Glazed Vase and Stoneware Butter Keeper
Item Details
A hand thrown crystalline glazed vase and stoneware butter keeper. The pair includes a round stoneware butter keeper with a matching lid, which is in a light oatmeal color, with iron flecks. The round, flat lid has a delicate pattern, reminiscent of a spider’s web with a circle in the center, glazed in soft blue. Butter is placed into the top section and immersed in cold, fresh water in the basin to keep it spreadable. An illegible maker’s mark is incised into the bottom. Also included is a hand-thrown stoneware vase features wide rounded shoulders, tapering inward toward the bottom, with a short neck and slightly flared rim. The vase is finished in a flowing, crystalline glaze in colors of turquoise, purple, cobalt and rust, and is signed ‘Phil Morgan ’93’.
