Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique hand-knotted Persian area rug. This nearly square wool rug is rendered in a palette of crimson, deep midnight blue, and gold. It features an allover floral pattern including vinework, shah abbasi palmettes, and a variety of small flowers over a crimson field. Framing the field are compound, resolved floral borders, the major border grounded in midnight blue; it is flanked by minor borders grounded in gold, pink, and azure. Selvedges are overcast. The rug finishes at either end with short kilim skirts and applied ivory cotton fringe, which appears to have been added in addition to the warp fringe. The rug is unmarked but comes with a ‘Certificat’ informational tag.
