Antique Art Nouveau Period Pewter Mermaid Calling Card Tray
Item Details
An antique, Art Nouveau period, pewter mermaid calling card tray. This tray features the classic bare-breasted, reclining mermaid design popular during this period. This piece was either originally covered in gold gilt, or it was later applied, as there are traces present to the tray basin and underside. This tray would have been located in the foyer of a home or business, and visitors who came ‘calling’, would have placed their name card in it so their presence may be announced to the occupant. If the occupant could not receive them, or was out, the card would let them know that visitor had come by.

- traces of gold gilt present; normal age and use related wear to piece.
