A hand-knotted Turkish area rug. This bright rectilinear wool rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of red, indigo, cobalt/azure, ivory, cream, and teal. It features a central floral medallion grounded in ivory and encircled with star points over a red field. Above and beneath the medallion are large, complex floral pendants, almost as big as the medallion. The field is framed by an unusual border, which consists of interlocking polygons of different sizes with stylized memling edges; these contain vases of flowers or geometric motifs. Selvedges are overcast in gray, the rug finishing at either end with short ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is unmarked.
