Hand-Knotted Baluch Area Rug

A hand-knotted Baluch wool area rug. This slim-rectangular geometric rug is rendered in a palette of red, black, and ivory. It features a slender pattern of latticed hexagons and diamonds interspersed with cruciform shapes over a red field that contains more ivory than typical Baluchi weavings. Framing the field are nine borders and guard strips, including meandering ribbons, barber pole patterns, and a design of linked hexagons containing meandering, fringed hooks. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is unmarked.
