Original 1919 "National Police Gazette" Cover Featuring "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and the Chicago White Sox
Item Details
A pair of original 1919 National Police Gazette featuring ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson and the Chicago White Sox. The newspaper features a primitive photographic collage of players from the 1919 winners of the National League Pennant, the White Sox. The game was overshadowed by ‘The Black Sox Scandal’ where seven members of the Chicago White Sox were paid 5,000 dollars each to throw the game, thus resulting in lifetime bans for the plays including Jackson. The National Police Gazette is considered one of the first men’s magazines and was known for the sensational but true crime stories printed in their pages. It was in publication from 1845-1920. Mounted on acid-free mats.
