Item Details

A West African cast bronze prestige axe from the Ashanti people of Ghana. The rectangular axehead is decorated with concentric arches and protrudes from the back of a figural bald human head. The handle is embellished with various frog and crocodile figures, along with beading and concentric arches. The handle ends in a small loop.

Condition

- heavy tarnishing, scratches, and wear throughout; the end of the blade is bent.
