A contemporary folk art oil painting on wooden board by self-taught Springfield, Tennessee pop artist Harry Underwood (born 1969). The piece, titled A Reformed Catastrophe, depicts a colorful surrealist-inspired scene, complete with whimsical figures, a spaceship, trees, birds and a golden staircase. The work utilizes complimentary muted hues of brown, orange, yellow, cream, red, and blue. The painting also features many lines of text in decorative script placed throughout the work that relate an abstract narrative. The image is signed ‘Harry’ in black paint to the lower right. It is presented without glass in a black wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
