An original oil painting by well received and listed artist, Leslie Cope (1913-2002). A wonderful rural landscape depicting a farm with red barns and farmers, horses and sheep. Signed and dated 1970 in the lower right; framed in a grey rustic wood frame with a decorative white trim inset. Leslie Cope was a prolific artist dedicated to his work and committed to the simple virtues of rural life, seascapes and landscapes in the United States and in his native England. Popular among his works are subjects that deal with the common work horse, country scenes, barnyards, coal mining from the early 1930’s, bridges, rural landscapes, village sketches, fair and carnival scenes, and canal studies to mention a few. Cope faithfully recorded southeast Ohio and loved to return often to Mt Hope and Millersburg. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Leslie Cope came to America in 1931 and settled in Roseville, Ohio where he was a member of the Ohio Watercolor Society.
His works are in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Library of Congress, and Capitol University. He has had one-man shows in the Library of Congress and The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. Honors and awards have been given him in shows at the National Academy, the Society of Graphic Artists, and the Society of Academic Artists. Copes works have been recognized in England and Paris, and in 1975 he was he was named to Who’s Who in America. This lovely landscape is framed in a grey rustic wood frame with a white accent trim, ready to hang.
