1921 Emerson Burkhart Oil on Board of Bird Study

A 1921 oil on board by listed Ohio artist Emerson Burkhart (American, 1905-1969). This piece is one of Burkhart’s early studies at age sixteen and depicts six studies of various bird species. The painting is executed on a Kellogg Cereal advertisement board and is dated 1921, signed E.C.B, and marked ‘Age 16’ in gold paint to the reverse of painting. The piece is presented in a gold finished wooden frame with an open front and a reverse which has black matting behind glass. Emerson Burkhart was an Ohio native who was based in Columbus for most of his career. Burkhart worked in oils and painted many local landscapes including many street scenes of Columbus, Ohio.
