Item Details
An antique Mahal area rug, circa 1900. This supple wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of tomato, emerald, and ivory. It begins with a large, baroque-shaped, curvilinear pendant medallion in emerald at the center of an open tomato-colored field with emerald spandrels. The major border features a turtle pattern over emerald; it is flanked by meandering floral guard strips and stylized boteh. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing in short wool warp fringe. It is unmarked.
