Antique Hand-Knotted Northwest Persian Long Rug, Circa 1900

Item Details

An antique Northwest Persian hand-knotted floral long rug. This fine, detailed wool rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of deep midnight blue, periwinkle, cinnamon, and cream, with green accents. Featured are three fringed diamond pole medallions over a deep midnight blue field. The field is populated with vining morning glories in green and cinnamon and blue and cinnamon, other flowers, boteh, and symbolic motifs. Framing the field are two colorful barber pole guard strips and a main border featuring a multi-hued stylized floret pattern over salmon. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is unmarked.
