Vintage Hand-Knotted Oushak Area Rug

Item Details

A vintage, hand-knotted Oushak area rug. This fine wool rug is rendered in a palette of cochineal red, cerulean, green and pale yellow. It features an allover pattern of vase forms, large and small palmettes, and florets radiating out from a central, mirrored medallion form of large intricate stylized palmettes over a scarlet red field. Framing the field are a wide cloudband border over pale yellow and an outer guard border with Kula elements. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with unbound cotton warp fringe. It is unmarked.
