Hand-Knotted Pakistani Tabriz Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Pakistani Tabriz area rug. This well-made wool rug features a curvilinear floral design in a palette of midnight blue, crimson, cerulean, and ivory. Beginning with a concentric, round central medallion, the field is densely patterned with crisp flowers, palmettes, boteh, and foliage. Details include morning glories in various stages of opening, as well as mother-daughter boteh and periwinkle-filled cartouche shapes in the spandrels. The field is midnight blue, cornered with red, which is repeated in the herati-patterned main border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and knotted ivory cotton warp fringe. It is marked on the reverse.
