A color lithograph on paper after a 1790 engraving by Pierre-Michel Alix (French, 1762–1817) after a painting by Charles Philippe Amédée Van Loo (French, 1719-1795).The quarter length portrait of Benjamin Franklin depicts the founding father in a soft gray-green suit, round-rimmed glass, and loose white cravat, in three-quarter profile, eyes turned to the viewer. It is titled ‘Franklin’ below, and signed in plate ‘Vanloo Pinx’ and ‘P.M Alix Sculpt’. This work is presented with a French mat, under acrylic glass in a painted black and gold wood frame, that is wired for hanging.
