Hand-Knotted Persian Qum Vase Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Qum vase rug. This exceptional wool area rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of midnight blue, camel, powder blue, and black. The field begins with a crisply woven hexagonal medallion over a midnight blue field. Pendants at the top and bottom of the medallion almost kiss the edges of floral bouquets in crisp vases. Stylized script in Farsi is incorporated into all major devices, including the central medallion, floating shields, spandrels, vases, and borders. An artistic highlight is the rendering of square tile designs overlaid with diamond tiles and floating on the field. Framing the field are three borders containing stylized script, and some florets, the primary border grounded in light blue. Selvedges are overcast in red, the rug finishing at either end in very short kilim skirts and ivory cotton warp fringe. It is marked on the reverse.
