Rookwood Vellum Landscape Plaque by E.T Hurley
Item Details
An early 20th century Rookwood vellum landscape plaque by noted Cincinnati artist E.T.Hurley (1869-1950). The plaque illustrates a tonal lake scene with birch trees at the shoreline and feathery pines lined along the shore in the hazy distance. The artist’s initials ETH are found in the lower right corner and the Rookwood flame emblem dated XLIII (1943) is stamped to the back. The plaque is presented in its original wooden frame with a carved rope inner edge.
E.T. Hurley’s painted ceramic works are immediately recognizable avidly sought by enthusiasts worldwide. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck and joined Rookwood Pottery as a decorator in 1896. For more information concerning E.T. Condition
Very slight pits to the glaze but no crazing.
