Colin Graeme Attributed Oil Painting on Board "Mare and Son"
Item Details
An oil painting on academy board attributed to listed artist Colin Graeme (1858 – 1910), titled Mare and Son. This painting depicts a mother horse standing with her son against a toned, gray surface, staring forward while hovering her head over him a protective stance. The painting is presented in a gold tone wooden frame featuring an oval cut and gessoed braided and semi-circle patterning to the surface. The piece has been attributed to Graeme with a tag to the verso, however a signature and provenance is not present. A window cut into the backing reveals that the piece is painted upon academy board produced by ‘Thayer & Chandler’.
Condition
- craquelure to surface; scattered foxing; small chips to frame finish to top, right and left sides.
