An oil on canvas landscape titled On the Yare Near Norwich by well-listed German painter Karl Heffner (1849 – 1925). It depicts a view of the River Yare in East Anglia, England reflecting a pale cloudy sky. A yellow glow along the horizon suggests the time of day is early morning or late evening. In the foreground are long grasses and a broken down dock with a stand of tall trees in the middle ground. The painting is mounted in wood frame embellished with ornate gilt gesso decoration and is wired for hanging. Karl Heffner was noted for his paintings of English and German landscapes.
Condition
- varnish is yellowed; craquelure to top and right sides; minor paint loss to lower right and left; stretcher marks on all four sides; frame has chips and cracks in gesso and missing pieces along the left edge.
