Item Details
An oil on panel painting titled Calm Waters by well-listed Scottish artist Andrew Black (1850 – 1916). It depicts a two-masted schooner floating in calm waters on a gray day. Two men in a dinghy next to the ship converse with men on board and a ship obscured by mist drifts in the background. The painting is signed ‘Andrew Black R S W’ to the lower left and is mounted in a wood frame finished in ochre and white. It is fitted with a saw tooth hanger.
Condition
- varnish is darkened with age and embedded soil; loss of paint in a small area to the lower left; adhesive tape on the back yellowed and curling.
