A semi-antique hand-knotted wool Bakhtiari area rug. This unusual rug features an ogee panel pattern of cypress trees and stylized, rectilinear floral elements in a varied palette of bright blue, warm browns, indigo, rose pink, teal, ochre and shades of green on a tomato red field. The inner field iss framed by half flowerheads, and the field in banded in a deep espresso brown sawtooth pattern on a white ground. It has wide guard borders with a carnation meander in orange, blue and white on indigo, with a wide primary border of alternating cypress trees and highly stylized floral forms in the field colors. It has maroon overcast selvedge edges with dense, soft cotton fringe to each end. Unmarked. Please see the link here for a video on how Bakhtiari rugs are made.
