1893 Attributed to Archibald Elphinstone Oil Painting on Canvas "Harbor"
Item Details
An 1893 oil painting on canvas attributed to English painter Archibald H. Elphinstone (1865-1936). Titled Harbor this depicts an old arching tree in the foreground, framing a Mediterranean bay with an Italian town of terracotta roofs and white stucco. This work is initialed in the lower left corner and presented within a gold tone wooden frame with a beige linen and gold tone liner. The title, date and attributed artist are on a brass plaque below.
Condition
- stretcher marks to right and left sides; slight yellowing to varnish; craquelure scattered across entire painting, most prevalent to lower right; stains to linen liner; cracking to gesso of frame; piece missing to center of right side; some surface dirt.
