An oil painting on canvas titled Still Life with Racket and Playing Cards by well-listed American artist Edgar Yeager (1904-1997), created in 1934. This still-life painting depicts a racket placed within a composition consisting of a blue clock, three playing cards, and a bowl holding a single fruit. The objects have been placed on a red tablecloth with a blue rose pattern with a blue and red curtain backdrop. This piece is signed and dated to the lower right corner. To the verso, are two descriptive gallery labels providing the title for the piece are present. Presented without glass within a composite wooden frame with floral and acanthus leaf molding.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
