An oil painting on canvas titled Nice, France by well-listed American artist Edgar Yeager (1904-1997), created in 1965. This painting depicts the coastal French city of Nice. Large palm trees are rendered in the foreground with builds arranged closely to in the middle ground near the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. In the distance are the French alps rendered in blues and greens. This piece is signed and dated in the lower right corner in paint. To the verso, the piece is titled faintly and it’s stated the Yaeger made the frame. Presented without glass in a wooden frame painted gray and white made by the artist.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
