Late 18th Century English Oil on Canvas Portrait of a Young Man

A late 18th century oil painting on canvas by an anonymous English artist. The untitled work depicts a half-length portrait of a young man, in three-quarter profile. His pale brown hair is tied in a queue at his nape, and he is dressed in a red coat with a starched and ornately tied white cravat. He stands with his left elbow resting upon a table, and his right hand tucked within his waistcoat. He is adorned with a delicate ruby and gold ring on his little finger. This work is presented within a gilt wooden frame.

Condition

- craquelure to most of the surface; small areas of paint loss to lower edge of painting; inpainting to all across the red jacket, to lower right corner and to the background right along the back of his head and left shoulder; relined; edges waxes; staines and small areas of peeling to the finish of the frame; some minor scratches and abrasions to frame.
