Papua New Guinean Koteka Gourd Penis Sheaths

A collection of four kotekas, penis sheaths traditionally worn by some native ethnic groups in Papua New Guinea. These koteka are made from long, curved dried gourds with a cord attached to the top and a band of woven natural fibers in a chevron-like pattern around the top of the gourd. These pieces have no apparent marks. Also included is a black-and-white photograph of two men wearing similar sheaths.

Condition

- some wear, discoloration, scratches and chips; one gourd missing woven fiber at top.
