Third Quarter 19th Century Victorian Renaissance Revival Sideboard

A third quarter of the 19th century Victorian Renaissance Revival sideboard. The sideboard is made of a richly stained walnut and it features ornately-carved details throughout. This magnificent piece starts at the top with a short gallery rail and acorn shaped turned finials to either side of a raised cornice with carved flower swags and cornices above a cabinet with a pair of curved, beveled glass doors. To either side of the center cabinet are two flanking cabinets with cornices and egg-and-dart trim above, and fluted wood columns flanking the doors. Each of the doors is lavishly hand-carved with shell motifs above detailed, carved figures of men. The interior of the glass-front center cabinet and the flanking cabinets each hold two wood shelves. The upper cabinets are supported by heavy turned supports. Atop the credenza below is a small chest that has a gallery rail around three sides, and holds a small, dovetailed drawer. The back board has raised panels, with fluted column motifs at the sides. The credenza has a stepped-back top with a waterfall edge. There is beautiful carving along the edges and more fluted and hand-carved columns flanking the three cabinets below. Above the three lower cabinets are two shallow dovetailed drawers, each with an ornate ring pull. The center of the lower cabinet has a large shell motif in the center with raised carved foliate motifs surrounding it. The side cabinet panels are hand-carved with images of seahorses and stylized seaweed. This cabinet shows exceptional workmanship and artistry throughout, but is not marked. Please note this exceedingly heavy item is located on a main floor.
