Florence Ezzell Stevenson Original Oil Painting of Still Life

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas by well-listed American artist and teacher Florence Ezzell Stevenson (1894 – 1974). The image depicts a Post-Impressionist-style floral still life of brightly colored pink, red, and yellow petaled zinnias arranged in a large, deep green, bulbous vase. A small porcelain Japanese figurine is situated to the left of the pictorial space, all situated against a dark, muted purple backdrop. The artist’s signature is signed in the paint to the lower right corner of the painting surface. The painting is mounted in a decoratively textured composite frame with a weathered, dark finish, and a distressed gold-tone interior edge.

Stevenson studied at the Conservatory of Art and Music in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she won the Logan Prize, and at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. She designed covers for publications including “Literary Digest”, “La Revue Moderne”, and “The Art World”. In 1937, Stevenson was one of fifteen Chicago artists selected for the first edition of “Who’s Who of American Women”.
