Art Cummings Ink Cartoon on Transparent Paper "Beware of Dog"

Item Details

An ink and graphite cartoon on transparent paper titled Beware of Dog by well-listed artist Art Cummings (United States, 1922 – 2012). Depicted is a freshly painted sign reading ‘Beware of Dog’. Humorously, it is suggested that the sign painter was chased off by the dog. Unsigned by the artist; marked ‘Omni – Bob’ in graphite, suggesting Bob Guccione approved the cartoon for use in Omni Magazine. Mounted onto sketch paper and presented without a frame. The item included in this lot comes from The Guccione Collection, sold exclusively through EBTH by digital media company Jerrick. The item originates from the personal archives of Bob Guccione; media mogul, artist, and founder of Penthouse magazine.

Children’s book illustrator and cartoonist Art Cumings was a frequent contributor to both Penthouse and Omni magazines, as well lending illustration duties to authors such as Dr. Seuss and Shari Lewis. Cumings gained popularity for his satirical magazine cartoons, including series such as “Balloonheads” and “The Artist”.
