Jack Meanwell Original 1999 Abstract Expressionist Oil on Canvas Board
Item Details
An original 1999 alla prima oil painting on canvas board by well-listed and beloved Cincinnati artist and Abstract Expressionist, Jack Meanwell (1919 – 2005). Executed in thick impasto, loosely mixed pigments are caked onto the canvas with a palette knife, forming a landscape of tactile peaks and terrain. Artist signature and date are marked to the lower right. This painting is mounted in a simple plein air wood frame with a bright gold leaf finish. An instructor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for over twenty-five years, Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is certainly comparable in many respects to Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell – Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
