Karel Appel Limited Edition Lithograph from "One Cent Life" Portfolio

Item Details

A limited edition double-sided lithograph on paper (page 129-130) by well-listed Dutch abstract artist Karel Appel (1921 – 2006) from the One Cent Life Portfolio of Pop Art Lithographs made to accompany poems written by well-listed Chinese poet Wallace Ting (1929-2010) and edited by well-listed American painter Sam Francis, created in 1964. The image — printed by Maurice Beaudet in Paris — depicts a curious shell-like purple figure drawn in aggressive linework and set against teal, green, and red fields of ink. The reverse side of the image is printed with a poem by Ting titled Fantastic Fancy Family. Presented without frame or matting.

This lithograph is from an edition of 2000 taken from the unbound elephant-folio. The portfolio was published in an edition of 2000 by E.W. Kornfeld in Bern, Switzerland where 100 editions were reserved for New York, Paris, and participants. This lithograph comes from a collection of 62 lithographs and serigraphs in colors on BFK Rives paper by 28 masters of Pop Art and COBRA movements. The portfolio includes work by Andy Warhol, Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, Tom Wesselmann and many more. The print is signed in plate to lower left.
