James Yoko Original 1964 Oil on Canvas "Aphid"

Item Details

An original 1964 oil painting on canvas by well-listed Ohio artist James Yoko (1916-2004), titled Aphid. This Cubist-style abstract composition depicts a crumpled, non-objective arrangement of orange, yellow, and black pigments, the angular forms reminiscent of the jointed legs and mandibles of an insect. The piece is signed and dated by the artist to the lower left corner. The canvas verso is marked again by the artist, and a gallery label with basic information about the piece is attached to the verso of frame. Housed without glass in a wooden slat frame with a bronze tone finish.

James Yoko was born in Youngstown, Ohio and was awarded a scholarship to the Dayton Art Institute where he earned a BA in Fine Arts. He continued his education by taking post-graduate courses with John King. His work has been shown in New York, Pennsylvania, Miami Valley Cooperative Gallery, Rutledge Gallery, and Antioch College.
