Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian Area Rug

Item Details

A hand-knotted Indo-Persian area rug. This wool rug is woven in a palette of ivory, cobalt, cerulean, and tan. It features a Kerman-style floral vase design beginning with a concentric, eight-point star medallion with pendants over a partly open ivory field. Punctuating the field are sprays of flowers in cerulean and shades of brown along the inner edges and spandrels. The major border, which is broken, features a floral design that includes vases out of which bouquets extend into the field. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with knotted ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is unmarked.
