Antonio Romano Original Mixed Media on Paperboard "Negro Troops"

An original mixed media painting on found compact paperboard with watercolor, gouache, and ink by well-listed contemporary Italian Folk Surrealist painter Antonio Romano (Italy/New York/New Jersey; born 1953), titled Negro Troops. The image depicts a folk art-style illustration of two African-American men wearing Civil War-style blue uniform and holding small metal handguns towards one another. A ribbon and banner cross the top of the image, reading ‘1863 Negro Troops, Joyn the Troop, Save the Union, Philadelphia 1863.’ The piece is signed in black to the lower left. It is presented in a wooden frame with a gold tone fillet and hanging wire. It is painted on the verso of a printed landscape image. A certificate of Authenticity from Rivertown Gallery in Brewster, MA is attached to the verso.
Condition
- to fair. Areas of accretion and water damage to board. Light scratching and loss across frame.
