Senufo Sejen or Hornbill Bird Carving

A Senufo Sejen or bird carving, mid to late 20th century. The carving is from the Senufo tribe of Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa, and it represents the yellow crested hornbill, a ceremonial piece used by the Poro, a type of society within the Senufo tribe for young men being trained and initiated into manhood and society at large. This piece features red fabric covered wings with brass sheet detailing throughout.

Condition

Some dust, oxidation noted throughout, discoloration on the fabric, wear noted to the wood, some small chips to the front and a hole noted in the beak.
