A hand-knotted Persian Tabriz area rug. This finely detailed wool rug begins with a curvilinear central star medallion amid a palette of red, dark sapphire, cerulean, and cream. The diamond medallion rests on a field of deep red with a spandrel at each corner. The field is populated with arabesqued palmettes, florals, and foliage, enclosed within compound resolved borders, which include a primary border featuring a classic herati pattern. The rug has overcast edges, finishing with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘handwoven carpet & rug, handmade in Iran’.
