Semi-Antique Small Rugs Including Anatolian and Southern Caucasian

Item Details

A pair of small, hand-knotted rugs. The rugs in this lot are semi-antique. The smaller one is Turkish, woven in a palette of camel, brown, salmon, and ivory. It features a hexagonal hooked medallion with four in-pointing arrows connected to cruciform shapes at top and bottom, the medallion resting on a camel field with hooked triangles in the corners. This rug has double-overcast edges and natural wool warp fringe. The larger rug is almost square, rendered in shades of dark blue, red, and ivory. It features a large, unevenly executed hooked diamond medallion at the center, the medallion populated with a quatrefoil cross at the center, surrounded by eight-pointed stars, which continue in the field, along with pinwheels and rosettes. Framing the field are compound borders, including an outer border that is characteristic of antique southern Caucasian rugs. This piece has overcast edges, finishing at two ends with brown and white wool warp fringe, which is unbound. Neither rug is marked.
