Antique Chinese Gouache and Watercolor Illustration
Item Details
An antique original early 20th-century Chinese watercolor and gouache painting on rice paper mounted to paper board. The painting depicts a group of men and women gathered around a seated man and woman who appear to be telling a story. This takes place in an outdoor setting amongst trees, shrubs, and large boulders. A small white lamb listens politely to the left. The painting is completed on several sheets of attached rice paper, and was seemingly originally part of a larger work. The painting is unmarked and unsigned. It is mounted to a golden floral silk brocade and is presented in a wooden frame with gold tone and black finishes and a hanging wire.
Condition
- painting has scratching, accretion, and creasing across, especially near seams of where sheets of rice paper meet. Significant scratching and loss of finish to frame.
