An oil painting on canvas of an autumnal riverscape by well-listed artist George Thompson Pritchard (American, 1878-1962). The work depicts a quaint landscape with orange light emanating from within. Singed ‘G. Thompson Pritchard’ to the lower left corner. Presented without a frame; various graphite numeric inscriptions to the verso.
Pritchard is best known for his landscapes, often of ocean and river scenes. Born in New Zealand, he would spend a large part of his life traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He received his formal art education from Auckland at the Academy of Art, the Elam School of Art, and the Melbourne Academy of Fine Arts. Pritchard exhibited and lectured on art extensively in his life. Today, his works can be found in the Springville Museum of Art in Utah and numerous private collections.
