An early 20th century original oil painting on canvas signed illegibly in red paint to the lower right by the artist. The image depicts an idyllic woodland muse, standing weightlessly on a lily pad. She wears a sheer silken gown adorned with fresh flowers, and a crown of flowers on her head. She smiles welcomingly at the viewer and raises a hand in peaceful greeting. The background is filled with tonalist trees, vegetation, and undergrowth. This work is mounted in its original antique beveled wood with opulent cast molding and a gilt finish. The verso is wired to hang.
Condition
- craquelure throughout painting. Accretion on painting surface. Molding of frame is cracked and chipped throughout, and has been spraypainted gold.
